Title: Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2
Post by: Mystical Ninja on Feb 26 2011, 11:52 PM
http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=151338

According to that link, it's already in development. They're taking a lot of Episode 1's complaints into consideration, and are trying to improve upon those flaws in Episode 2. Aside from "OMG, GREEN EYES!", the main issue that many people (including myself) had with the first episode, was the physics. While they didn't necessarily make the game entirely unplayable like many people have claimed, I still think they could have used some work. Another issue is the lack of new content, which is apparently going to be featured in Episode 2.

You just might be onto something, Yerix. In fact, there's something about the Sonic CD launch trailer that caught my (and other peoples') attention:

That "something", of course, is the HD "Future" sign, which is in the exact same graphical style as Sonic 4: Episode I. Many people have speculated that this might be a possible hint/foreshadowing of Episode II. After all, the other trailers (as well as the Metal Sonic silhouette in Episode I's ending) have indicated that they're trying to connect Sonic CD and Sonic 4 together. Plus, Ken Balough did say, at one point (http://www.sonicretro.org/2011/12/ken-balough-hints-sonic-4-episode-ii-teasers-incoming/), that he'll be "more at liberty to talk about it" once the Sonic CD remake launches.

Since they apparently won't be using the Retro engine for Episode II, then here's hoping they use the Generations (3DS) Classic engine, since that's the next best thing. It would also be nice if Classic Sonic was in it, but I won't hold my breath for that one, since, for some reason, they decided that using Modern Sonic for this type of game was a better idea.

take shelter everyone, the next shitstorm brews...apperently little to nothing is to change between ep1 and ep2...if anything, they'e straight up copypasted ep1's physics into ep2's with little to no tweaks instead of adapting classic sonic's 3DS generations physics.
for once dimps does something right and then they go ahead and mess up...hopefully this is just a not-final build

Oh, dear God. Please tell me they're joking. I mean, honestly. Give me a break. After doing such an awesome job with the physics in the 3DS version of Sonic Generations, they decide to go and re-use the exact same (unaltered) engine from the first game, despite everyone's complaints about the physics? What are they thinking? Sure, I actually had my share of fun playing Episode I (to a certain extent), but there was just no denying the fact that the physics were in need of some serious work.

this claims that:
-the physics surpass that of classic sonic's in generations
-no "glossy" feel
-musical direction the same as ep1
Title: Re: Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2

Oh, good. Assuming that this source is more reliable/credible than the other one, then that's a relief.

Quote
-the physics surpass that of classic sonic's in generations
While it's a safe bet that the physics have indeed in improved from Episode I's, they're probably exaggerating a bit when they say that it's better than Classic Sonic's in Generations. But then again, I guess it depends on which version they're talking about. The console version's physics weren't bad, but at the same time, they weren't a hundred percent accurate to the Genesis games. The 3DS version's physics, on the other hand, were surprisingly better than the console version, which is ironic, considering the fact that DIMPS was the developer. Hmm, but then again, they are the ones responsible for Sonic Advance 1, which had physics that were pretty much the same as the 16-bit games.

Quote
-musical direction the same as ep1
Eh, that's fine with me. I don't know about anyone else, but I actually liked the soundtrack in Sonic 4: Episode I, and I honestly don't understand all the hate for it. I will admit that some of the synths are a tad high-pitched (particularly in Splash Hill), but I don't think they were enough to ruin the entire soundtrack like many people say.

So, the Sonic 4: Episode II trailer has been revealed today. (http://www.sonicretro.org/2011/12/sonic-the-hedgehog-4-episode-2-officially-announced-return-of-the-teaser/#more-6364) Even though there was no gameplay shown, Balough did give out some specific information, like Tails being playable, which makes this the first console game (not counting Sonic & the Black Knight or Sonic Wildfire/Secret Ring's Party Mode) where someone other than Sonic was playable since Sonic 2006. Also, he said that the game is using a different physics engine, and that all the problems people had with the first one are getting addressed.

While a WiiWare release would have been nice, I think that just goes to show that Episode II is going to have capabilities that are beyond the Wii's limitations, but of course, there are tons of Nintendo fanboys out there who fail to grasp that concept, and will rage about it regardless. Some of them even go so far as to claim that "Sega hates Nintendo" for not releasing a Sonic game or two on the Wii. It's kind of hilarious, actually.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not accusing you of being a Nintendo fanboy, I'm talking about people I've seen at other sites, like here (http://www.marioboards.com/index.php?topic=13152), for instance (and in the comments section of the Retro article I posted).

I'm guessing Tails is your favorite character? Personally, I've always been more of a Knuckles fan, but his inclusion in the game's fine, too. I just can't tell you how sick I've gotten of the whole "Sonic only" thing they've had going on for the past five (going on six) years.

Title: Re: Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2

Sonic and Tails' poses appear to be based off the ones they had in the Sonic 2 title screen. As expected, the two of them are going to be using their Modern designs in this one, like in Episode I. Again, I don't mean to bring the whole "WAAAAH, GREEN EYES!" thing into this, but I'm going to have to agree with the Classic fanboys on this one. I'm far from being one myself (since I happen to like both Classic and Modern Sonic games), but even I think that those designs have no business being in this game.

My reasons for saying that have nothing to do with nostalgia. For me, it's about continuity. In Generations, it's been established that their Classic counterparts were their "younger" selves, and if Sonic 4 took place not very long after Sonic left Angel Island in Sonic 3, how could he and the other characters have magically aged that fast? Story-wise, it just doesn't make any sense.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying I hate the Modern designs; again, I'm only going by what was established in the continuity.

So I've heard. Regarding your last sentence, I vaguely remember there being some thread in the Oldbie Lounge sometime ago, where Tweaker said that he found Kid Goku (or perhaps it was Kid Gohan, Goten, Trunks, or all four) attractive. *Shudders*

Anyway...

Some new Badnik art for Sonic 4: Episode II has been revealed today.

In honor of Sonic 3's eighteenth anniversary, Sega has posted some new concept art for one of Robotnik's mechs (http://blogs.sega.com/2012/02/02/happy-hedgehog-day-2012/). This is definitely a far cry from the rehashed boss battles from the first episode. Honestly, there was only one (or maybe two) original boss battles in the entire game.

As always, like they've been doing every Friday for the past two weeks, new Badnik concept art has been revealed:

This sandworm Badnik definitely hints at there possibly being a desert level in the game. I just hope it'll take after the scrapped Dust Hill and Desert Dazzle (http://i.imgur.com/qUzi4.jpg) stages, rather than Sandopolis.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II - Gameplay Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCTtLHLKO4k#ws)
Honestly, I don't think this game looks a hundred percent different from Episode I, but at the same time, it does look as if there were some slight improvements made to the engine, just as Ken Balough said. Sonic no longer uncurls while going off of ramps, the Spin Dash actually has some power/momentum, etc.

Title: Re: Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2
Post by: Yerix on Feb 23 2012, 07:57 PM
not alot of momentum gain in that one part where they're running down a steep slope.
now in like sonic 2's CPZ act 2 where you run down a simular steep path at the start, you gain momentum much faster than that

wouldn't be suprised if they just copy-pasted generations 3DS' classic sonic engine, hell even the dead classic sonic warning signs are making a return

Apparently, the Red Rings from Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations are going to be in the game, indicating that there's unlockable content. Hopefully, it won't just be an art gallery, or anything like that. Although, the Achievements List (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/sonic-the-hedgehog-4-episode-2/achievements/) hints at the possibility of their purpose being to unlock a secret final boss battle, kind of like The Doomsday Zone in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

It also says that it's now possible to fight bosses as Super Sonic, which was impossible in Episode I, due to the boss stages being entirely separate stages from Act 3, and had such a low ring supply which was nowhere near the fifty rings that were required to go super.

On a sidenote, there's a stage in the game called "Sky Fortress", which was the beta name of the Wing Fortress Zone in Sonic 2. I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't a coincidence, since they did the same thing in Sonic Advance by naming a stage "Neo Green Hill" (which was Aquatic Ruin's beta name).

"We just want to see how the users accept this episode."

They'll find something to rage about(and make a motherfucking huge mole-everest out of molehills), because today's fanbases are all about raging about nonsensical bullshit than just fucking enjoying the games.

About twenty-nine minutes into the video, there's a new trailer, showcasing the desert stage this time. (http://uk.gamespot.com/shows/on-the-spot/?event=on_the_spot20120405) Not only that, but the "Lock-On Technology" from Sonic & Knuckles has been confirmed. If you have both Episode I and II downloaded, then a "Metal Sonic Episode" will be unlocked, meaning that he'll be playable in the first episode.

they won't let us play as tails in 1p, yet they let us play as metal sonic?
...perfect opportunity to fix the glaring physics flaws of ep1 for "ep-metal"

Here's a Youtube'd version of the above video:

Sonic 4: Episode 2 - Desert Zone & Episode Metal Trailers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDSwG0VEAh4#ws)
There are also some new screenshots (http://www.sonicstadium.org/2012/04/I-dunet-believe-it-new-episode-2-screens/) for both Episode II and Episode Metal.

This screenshot in particular shows that Episode Metal will be using the improved physics engine from Episode II (since Sonic would normally uncurl after using the spindash off a ledge in the original).

caught wind of the sonic 2 HD drama lately? turns out LOst slipped a keylogger in the recent alpha release, they discharged him from the project just now, he also was behind all the anal DRM

it already compromised at least one or two players' computers and online accounts from what i've heard

first tweaker touches a kid, and now LOst sabotages a fangame with malware that actually managed to inflict damage. something bad is in the sonic scene's water...

a "tails at lead" option could be realized in ep2 as DLC/patch after launch, if the fans demand it enough

So... The word on the street is that a copy of the game was leaked on Steam earlier today, but unfortunately, it ended up getting taken down, most likely by Sega's request. On the bright side, though, there are people who managed to download it before that happened, and there's some video footage of both Episode II and Episode Metal uploaded on Youtube:
